Jan 30 - Hmm Paris

Great way to start the week by pretending I am in Paris - it is happily National Croissant Day !!

Had my breakfast with a view this morning and discovered that it is not France that they originated from but Austria. Seems the croissant as we know it today was made by an Austrian military officer, August Zang. In 1939 he opened a Viennese bakery in Paris introducing France to his baking techniques.

So I don't feel so bad now about getting mine in an Italian place across the road from work:  Masseria Caffe' & Bakery  :)
